Northgate Good in all areas
Children, staff and families are celebrating after Ofsted visited Northgate Primary School in Great Yarmouth in December, and praised all areas of the school’s work.
This was the school’s first inspection in seven years. Inspectors noted that after experiencing a ‘period of turbulence at school and trust level’, headteacher Susan Bacon and her team had secured a good standard of education for all pupils.
Miss Bacon has been in post since January 2024, the same time that Waveney Valley Academies was relaunched as Kingfisher Schools Trust under new leadership.
Teachers are praised in the report for providing a great curriculum and for carefully developing the pupils’ ability to speak, read and write well.
Northgate pupils’ positive attitudes to learning are commented upon throughout, with comments including:
“Pupils are polite and kind. Pupils are really clear that anyone would be welcomed as part of the school community.”
“Pupils learn about different religions and cultures. They show great respect for people who may hold differing views to their own.”
“Pupils are happy and enjoy learning. The school does a great job in giving pupils experiences that they would not otherwise have.”
Susan Bacon, Headteacher said:
"I am very proud of our pupils and staff. The report recognises the many strengths at Northgate Primary and how hard staff work to create an environment where pupils want to do well and feel cared for. I feel honoured to lead such a wonderful school".
Craig Morrison, Chief Executive of Kingfisher Schools Trust added:
“Northgate is well set for a successful future, as recognised in this report. Staff are doing a great job for the pupils: their hard work, optimism and community spirit stand out.”
